Using the Tire Repair Kit

Using the Tire Repair Kit

WARNING: Tire pressures should always be checked using an accurate pressure gauge when COLD. The pressure gauge on the compressor should not be relied upon as being accurate.

CAUTION: To avoid overheating, do not use the compressor continuously for more than eight minutes. Allow the compressor to cool for 15 minutes between uses.

CAUTION: If the compressor runs slowly, it has overheated from excessive use. Switch Off and allow to cool.

Adding the tire sealant

When possible, stop in a safe place away from traffic. Always ask passengers to wait outside the vehicle, in a safe area away from traffic. Switch on the hazard warning flashers to alert other road users, then follow these steps.

  1. If possible, position the wheel with the puncture at the bottom.

  2. Remove the speed restriction label from the sealant canister, and affix it to a surface you can see while driving (such as on the steering wheel). This reminds the driver that the tire has a temporary repair and not to exceed the recommended speed.

  3. Shake the sealant canister.

  4. Connect the filling hose onto the connector at the base of the sealant canister.

  5. Ensure that the vent button on the compressor is not pressed.

  6. Remove the valve cap from the valve stem of the wheel, then connect the filling hose securely onto the valve.

CAUTION: Make sure the sealant hose is securely fitted to the valve, or the sealant may flow backwards and could clog the filling hose.

  7. Ensure that the compressor’s power switch is Off.

  8. Connect the sealant canister to the compressor, ensuring the canister is upright.

  9. Detach the power cable from the bottom of the compressor and plug it into the vehicle’s 12V power socket, located in the trunk.

  10. Ensure the compressor is positioned on a level surface.

  11. With the vehicle powered On, switch On the compressor.

  12. Let the compressor run for approximately 5-7 minutes to add the sealant and fill the tire up to the correct pressure. See Tire and Loading Information Label.

WARNING: Do not over-inflate the tire.

Note: The pressure gauge may read higher than the actual pressure when the compressor is On. To get an accurate tire pressure, turn the compressor Off.

  13. When the proper tire pressure has been reached, switch Off the compressor.

WARNING: Do not drive if the tire pressure remains below the recommended pressure shown on the tire information label. Doing so could result in a collision due to a sudden tire failure. Contact Roadside Assistance. See Contacting Roadside Assistance.

  14. Disconnect the filling hose from the tire valve.

  15. Wipe off any excess sealant from the tire valve and wheel rim, then replace the valve cap.

  16. Return the Tire Repair Kit to its storage location in the vehicle.

Note: Remember to replace the tire sealant canister. See Tire sealant expiration and replacement.

Distributing the tire sealant
  1. Once the tire sealant has been added and the proper tire pressure has been reached, immediately drive for about 10 minutes uninterrupted, or approximately 4-6 miles(7-10 km). If possible, do not fall below a speed of 12 mph (20 km/h).

WARNING: While driving to distribute the sealant, observe the following:

    • Do not exceed the maximum speed listed on the speed restriction label.

    • If you experience any unusual vibration, noise, or other ride disturbance, reduce your speed and drive with caution until you can pull over to a safe location. Do not continue driving, and contact Roadside Assistance. See Contacting Roadside Assistance.

  2. After driving for about 10 minutes uninterrupted, or approximately 4-6 miles(7-10 km), stop at a safe location.

  3. Use the compressor to adjust to the correct tire pressure. See Using the Compressor.

  4. Reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). See TPMS reset.
